Coastal sanctuary behind the dunes

Nestled just behind the dunes of Palm Beach and framed by two mature pine trees, The Esplanade is a calm and private refuge from the raw power of the oceanfront. 

The design intent behind this robust multi-level beachside family home was to seamlessly integrate indoor and outdoor living, with strong visual and physical connections to the surrounding landscape and beach beyond.

A sculptural and landscaped concrete terrace stretches toward the shoreline, offering a shaded spot to watch the waves beneath one of the original pine trees. From the beach, the arrival sequence is intentionally subdued — off-form concrete, and white render keep the architecture quiet and allow the eye to be drawn toward the ocean and the tropical courtyard garden.

At the heart of the home is a serene courtyard with a private pool, framed by lush greenery. It offers a private space for lying in the sun, ocean views and easy entertaining—protected from prevailing winds yet still connected to the ocean. An intentional layer of green on the building strengthens the calming and intimate connection to landscape, providing a feeling of cool protected shade.

Living and sleeping levels rise above with the robust beauty of concrete warmed with timber, travertine & limestone. Deep verandas and soft curves throughout the home echo the natural contours of the coastline, while responding sensitively to climate and location.

A playful green privacy screen climbs the exterior, intentionally framing key views of the pine trees and the sea beyond. This home is an exercise in robust, sculptural architecture by the beach, where privacy is considerately balanced with outlook, and connection to the natural environment..
